Johan Reuter

Upcoming projects of Danish bass baritone Johan Reuter include his debut as Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Beijing and the title role of Wozzeck at Deutschen Oper Berlin. At the BBC Proms he will perform Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem.

2019 are scheduled, among others, a new production of Peter Heise’s Drot og Marsk in Copenhagen as well as Das Rheingold and Die Walküre in Budapest, 2020 will follow Salome at the Theater an der Wien and Tristan und Isolde in London.

Johan Reuter studied at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Academy of the Royal Theatre of his hometown Copenhagen. He frequented master classes of Ernst Haefliger, Anthony Rolfe Johnson and Richard Trimborn.

Since 1996 he is a soloist of the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, where he sings a large repertoire.

Recent concert engagements include Brahms‘ Vier ernste Gesänge in an orchestra version by Glanert and Brahms‘ Ein deutsches Requiem, Haydn‘s Schöpfung and Die Jahreszeiten, Mahler‘s 8th symphony, Rückert songs, Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Das klagende Lied, Fauré’s Requiem, Beethoven‘s 9th symphony, Fauré’s and Mozart‘s Requiem, Berlioz‘ Romeo et Juliette, Peer Gynt, Michelangelo songs by Shostakowitch in Hambrg, Vienna, Lyon, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Athens, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Brussels, Florence, Pisa, Perugia, Madrid, Lisbon, Thessaloniki, Aarhus, at the festivals of Salzburg and Bregenz with conductors such as Marc Albrecht,  Semyon Bychkov, Paul MacCreesh, Valeri Gergiev, Leopold Hager, Philippe Herreweghe, Marek Janowski, Zubin Mehta, Marc Minkowski, Kazushi Ono, Michael Schønwandt or Lothar Zagrosek.

He gave song recitals in Copenhagen, Hannover, Frankfurt, Bergen and Madrid.

Johan Reuter recorded Tristan und Isolde under Janowski, Kunzen‘s Holger Danske, Nielsen‘s Maskarade conducted by Ulf Schirmer (Gramophone Award), C. E. F. Weyse‘s Sovedrikken and Mozarts La Clemenza di Tito, Schubert‘s Winterreise in Danish, orchestra songs by Delius, arias by the young Giuseppe Verdi and songs by, among others, Richard Strauss.
